Money is so 20th century.  Credit cards are used for almost everything these days.  It seems that traditional bills and coins are going the way of the Dodo as we move closer and closer to a cashless society.  It’s your task to save the helpless bartering system through the power of design!  It’s your task to redesign money.  But don’t just redesign what the bills and coins look like.  Think about how they are used, and what the alternatives might be.  Are they bills and coins at all?  Do bills need another shape?  What materials are they made from?  Consider all aspects of the concept of barter, both in the practicality of the objects and the value of the individual items.

Sounds surround us everyday.  Many have become so common to us that we have stopped hearing them altogether.  If visual perspective can be obtained by investigating more closely the common visuals we see everyday, then the common sounds we hear everyday should be examined as well.   That will be your task today.  Using only the capital letters A, B, C and D as graphic elements, create a visual for the following sounds:  Airplane flying overhead, dog barking, sandwich wrapper crinkling, stomach growling, people typing.

Since we were children, we played association games.  Whether it is colors, the alphabet or numbers, we naturally associate certain categories with equivalent descriptions or adjectives.  You’re going to do a little of this right now.  Here are a few items and categories.  Your task is to list on a piece of paper three things that meet the criteria described.  Remember, it doesn’t have to be the EXACT item; it can sound like it, be part of the answer, etc:

  1. A TV show, personal hygiene product and a vegetable that begin with the
    letter “R.”
  2. A musical group, movie title and drink that all have a color in the name.
  3. An actor or actress, an animal and a city name that all have a number in their title.
  4. An office supply product, a song title and a musical instrument that all have a shape in the name.
  5. A food item, an insect and a car model that all have a descriptive word regarding size in their name.
